Milford sits right on the line between Kent and Sussex counties, a historic river town that has been growing fast, and it is about as far north as we run on a normal week.
About 45 minutes north of Millsboro on Route 1, straddling the Kent and Sussex county line. Worth the trip, but book ahead.
A river town growing faster than the road out to it
Milford has added a lot of new neighborhoods in recent years without the beach-season crowding that comes with it, so the driving is easier out here than on Route 1 through the resort towns. The Mispillion River still runs boats and small craft through downtown, similar tannin and silt staining to Milton and Seaford rather than saltwater damage. Being this far from our base, Milford is a trip we plan for rather than fit in on short notice, so an appointment booked a little ahead gets a far better slot than a same-week call.
